I don’t put my 2cents based on blog/media reviews, rather based on going into the cinema and catching the flick myself.
I did so, so here is how i feel bout the “Malaysia first ever kungfu movie”:-
1) Visually it was done marvelously in terms of its cinematography and lighting and set build-up
2) Other than the above mentioned, the screenplay was poor and it failed to get the message across. (perhaps due to poor editing and script-writing). It’s struggling to juggle between an art film and kungfu flick.
3) Long overly-elaborated monologues from the openning and the unnecessary intro of the main characters killed the mood and suspense of the movie.
4) Constant flashback scenes from each character with repetition of shots over and over again causing lost in translation for the viewer.
5) The flow of the entire movie failed at capturing the attention of the viewer to get into the story, with much static scenic insert shots which seemed out of place throughout the movie.
6) The Ending of the movie leaves an impression of WTF for the viewer to digest the moral of the story in the movie.
One might disagree with me. But you are also entitled to your own opinion as well

I can’t agree more with YK….The poster of the film makes the film so great in outer but not in the inner. Storytelling was bad, Flashback with repetition of scene(wasting my time and boringgg), Repetition of phrase, the actions were normal and boring as if small kids were fighting, blood scene totally makes me feel as if I was watching a comedy cartoon film, actors in it like shouting so much, plot of the film was not entirely developed such as love story, death of the third brother, revenge on those bad people and so little things related with Kinta valley…However there’s still A comedy in it. I hope there’s no Kinta 2 in future.

The film is really disappointing. When I see a martial movie, the most important thing for me is the level of the fights and the techniques of the fighters, not the ecenario or the story; Kinta is full of champions but the fights level is really poor, it looks like a cartoon for children below 10 years old and the fights look like the ones of nintendo. Before watching the movie, I had a very bad feedback about it and I was told that people leave the cinema before the end, but I wanted to check by myself. When I went to see it with some friends, there were only 3 people in the cinema, then 2 left and were followed but the 3rd one, we had the cinema for me and my friends only! I confirm that it is a very bad movie, the worst martial movie I have seen in my life if we can call it martial art movie.

I am a martial art movie lover. First of all I wanted to say is I like IP Man so much and I believe definitely it’s major impact to Kinta 1881 if after watching IP Man. Well, my bro is a big fan to because he learns WING CHOON and he kinda a master too. He was disappointed because the movie of Kinta session was canceled due to less customers for midnight show. It was so surprising us because we never experienced this situation before. So end up me and him never watched this movie even though we really wanted to watch it (we are from KINTA valley too). Maybe I have no right to judge this movie and I believe the movie came out at the wrong time because IP MAN is very competitive. People always compare the same genre movie. BlackBox, hope you will improve more for next movie. We still support local production.
