replacing Chan who wants to have an early retirement. Ma is
determined to put things right.

Po (Sammo Hung), an upcoming figure in the underworld with interests

criminal activity, and Jack (Jing Wu) – Po’s right-hand man, is a
reclusive cold-blooded killer. An undercover agent is found dead who
sent by Chan to get near to Po. With no evidence whatsoever Chan
thinks it’s the work of Po and sends people to bring him in anyway.
Po is released with insufficient evidence and he challenges Chan
that if he and his men step out of the police station they are dead.
Jack captures and kills the outbound detective. Everyone
fears for their safety ...subsequently, Ma knows another story
between Chan and Po ……
After a fierce battle with Jack, Ma fight Po and it ends in a blood

Introduction
A powerful crime lord who constantly eludes the law…a senior
detective at the end of his career who will go to any lengths to
catch him…and a deadly martial arts expert who is about to take the
reins of the serious crime unit. Over the course of one special day
– a time when family bonds are supposed to take precedence – a
bloody confrontation will take place between the underworld and the
police.
Directed by Wilson Yip (Leaving Me, Loving You, Skyline Cruisers)
and with action scenes directed by Donnie Yen (The Twins Effect,
Blade II), SPL is a contemporary kung-fu action film that combines
high-octane martial arts with intense, compelling drama. Fresh from
his roles in blockbusters Hero and Shanghai Knights, Yen also stars
along with martial arts veteran Sammo Hung and critically acclaimed
actor Simon Yam. Former wushu champion Jing Wu also makes a guest
appearance.
The tightly scripted action takes place over Father’s Day. Sammo
Hung (Martial Law, The Medallion) plays underworld boss Po who is
furious when he’s taken in by the police and prevented from spending
time with his baby son. Although he’ll stop at nothing to prevent
being caught – even going so far as to murder a witness – he’s a
loving father in the eyes of his wife and son.
Simon Yam (PTU, Tomb Raider 2) plays senior detective Chan who has
his own reasons for wanting to put Po behind bars for good. Chan is
also a father as he’s taken it upon himself to look after the
daughter of the witness murdered by Po. He’s also aware that he’s
seriously ill and needs to provide for his adopted daughter after
his death.
Donnie Yen plays Ma, a police officer skilled in martial arts who
will take over from Chan after his retirement. Ma has a reputation
for violence – he once beat a suspect to death – but has a
passionate desire to see that justice is done. The son of a
policeman, he watched his father die an agonising death in the
course of his job.
Jing Wu (Drunken Monkey, The Legend Of Zu) also makes a special
guest appearance as Jack, Po’s cold-blooded right-hand man.
Produced by Carl Chang, whose credits include Hong Kong blockbuster
The Twins Effect, SPL also features an exciting array of
behind-the-scenes talent including DoP Lam Wah Chuen, composer Chan
Kwong Wing and costume designer Bruce Yu.
